jQuery Roadmap

A great insightful update into the future of jQuery and 1.9 vs 2.0 due next year which should be essentially the same but 2.0 will drop support for old IE (meaning ie6, ie7 and even ie8). So it should be much smaller and more effecient. Developers will choose wether they need ie support and will use 1.9, and those who are alive will use 2.0.

Proposed WordPress Admin Navigation Change

This proposal is a great idea to clarify the confusion for new users between posts vs pages in wordpress. It takes a few minutes to explain the difference every time, and this proposed navigation change helps this understanding come intuitively. I also think this would go a long way from separating the 'post' term from the blog. Since we now have custom posts and a 'post' can be anything. The default post type for posts is really a blog post type, so why not call it blog? I support this and if you do to then comment in!

Technology Sabbatical

Don't let your devices and connections rule you. Take a break. I've enjoyed coming home to my family everyday and not need instant email updates, but having physical tangible contact with those I love. I love the advice from Eric Schmidt in this article to unplug for at least 1 hour everyday. Society really seems addicted to tech and are losing depth, wisdom and understanding. Funny to hear that coming from someone who depends on the internet as much as I do. But I'm confident I could be happy disconnected, making a living is another matter… Depend on technology, but don't let it rule you.

Web Designer Workflow Notes from The Coyier

Some great notes and links about workflow. I think the workflow for building a website is something that should be discussed more around the web. We get excited and talk a lot about the tiny details, like vendor-prefixes and preprocessors and git and even sometimes deployment. I'm a big picture person and seeing a whole process from beginning to end helps visualize how everything fits together. I'm currently working on documenting SOP for websites, and the docs seem to grow endlessly. You never realize how many different facets web designers are expected and even need to be expert in just to make a competent website these days. Thanks for sharing the notes Chris, sounds like a great workshop.
