Interactive Generative Art Series – 08 – multiple lines scalable

gen-art-8-01

Well, so much for blogging each step in my process of creating this generative art series. I took a few steps in this iteration since the last one. But it was all in the spirit of one step. First I wanted to abstract the duplication of each ball/line so that it didn’t require copying blocks [...]

Interactive Generative Art Series – 07 – multiple lines

gen-art-multi-lines 01

To make it more interesting and give more depth and texture to the display, I wanted to have more lines than one, so I’m now going with two for starters. Eventually I’d like to get up to a dozen or maybe even have them randomly self populate and die over time. Adding one more isn’t [...]

Redworks

redworks

I just realized that I hadn’t updated the site about it, but I’m now (since a couple months) interactive designer/developer with Redworks, subsidiary or Ogilvy & Mather in Atlanta! I’ll be doing all kinds of interactive designing and programming, specifically with flash and I’m stoked to be waist deep in Flash and as3 daily. What? [...]

Random Movement | Brownian revisited for as3

I have had feedback that certain random movements I program are a bit “jumpy”. Such as my old brownian movement tutorial and I really noticed it in my last tutorial, the parallax 3d depth effect tutorial. I’ve been thinking about it and looking around at some code and now have this updated brownian movement example! [...]

Dynamic 3d space | Floating Sketches Tutorial

I’ve had quite a few questions about how to make depth in flash. Earlier (like, 2 years ago) I put up an experiment file to give some interactive depth to some sketchbook sketches, see Floating Sketches. I’ve finally gotten around to translating that into as3. It’s still the same basic idea, Create layers of levels, [...]

City Skyline Test | Depth Study

Gives feel of perspective and depth by reacting to mouse movements. The effect is parallax, read more… The city images are very choppy and ugly, I know, it’s just a test.

New Circle Cube Logo

Here’s the new circlecube logo! I’ve had it for a while, but hadn’t uploaded it. I still have to update my theme to incorporate it. I like the green transparent circlecube graphic in the header now but it’s gotta go… and plus it’s a little too green. The common 2d © symbol and a 3d [...]

M88 Tank Model

For the “Boneyards” Documentary on A&E. Here is the model of the M88 Tank. It’s what they use to tow tanks and stuff, it can lift a thousand tons or something ridiculous like that! I did the modeling for the tank in Maya.

Snow via Javascript & Canvas – Tis the Season

After playing with the settings in my experiments I found a few settings I liked and wanted to develop further. The first was snow! An added bonus I was able to work on a project just for the holidays and used much of this code in it! I looked around the web and saw a [...]

Link: Responsive Images: How they Almost Worked and What We Need

Mat discusses the options for getting responsive images along with responsive designs. We can use various means (server-side, client-side, mobile-first, html5 data attributes, cookies…), but none are fully satisfactory, especially with new browsers prefetching images before cookies can be set or html is even fully read and parsed. He states that bandwidth sniffing is… a [...]

Here’s a great little script I found useful today as I was working on having dynamic effects applied to javascript via canvas. “The canvas element provides scripts with a resolution-dependent bitmap canvas, which can be used for rendering graphs, game graphics, or other visual images on the fly.” Thanks to the canvas APIs I was [...]
