Dynamic Flash Vertical Scrolling Link List with XML

    As seen at activeden. I’ve fixed it up a lot and made it much easier to incorporate into your own files.

    A link list. Vertically scrolling list of links or just words. Scrolls and wraps automatically and interactively. Reads an external XML file containing just titles and paths and creates an interactive click-able link list!

    Download the source files (linkList.fla, cats.xml, linkList.swf): Link List at activeden.

      I’m interested in seeing how the .fla file is put together for the dynamic vertical scrolling list with XML. However, I can’t open the linklist.fla file with Flash 8. What am I doing wrong. Thanks!

      linklist.fla is a flash 9 file. I will upload a flash 8 version for you though…

      I’ve made it flash 8 compatible and cleaned up the code a lot and now have moved it to Flashden:

      Hello evereyone!
      How I can do to this flash not be a circular??
      i.e. If I have 1 or 5 items in the xml, how I can stop the movement of the list when the last item is showed?
      Bye! Thanks!

      Instead of having text, can I have thumbnails instead? So that when clicked the user will be redirected to another site. At the same time when the user mouseover, a short description of the image will be provided? Thanks for answering my query.

      @cachabacha -
      Check out the alternate version: Dynamic Flash Scrolling Link List XML driven Component on FlashDen
      This one does not wrap around. Once it reached the end of the list it simply stops.

      would you be willing to walk me through it? It’s been hell trying to figure it out on my own.

        @kristina – I’m happy to answer any questions.
        Open the file in flash and select the movie clip on the stage and double click it to edit it’s contents. Then select the item you’d like to change the color of and edit the color in the properties window. Then search embedding flash in html and you will find plenty of examples. I prefer swfobject. This post I wrote about flashvars will even explain the basics of embed codes http://circlecube.com/2008/05/tutorial/flashvar-tutorial/, Thanks for reading
